Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about our programs, training, and membership

Comfortable athletic clothing, such as a T-shirt and athletic pants or shorts that allow easy movement. Students train barefoot, so no special shoes are needed on the mat. We also recommend bringing a water bottle.

For regular classes, bring your uniform and a water bottle. Sparring classes require full sparring equipment, and nunchuck classes require your own nunchucks. For regular training, students may wear either the full uniform or a Broadway Taekwondo T-shirt or hoodie with uniform pants. On Belt Promotion Days, the complete uniform (dobok) is required.

We recommend at least twice a week for the best progress. We also offer a once-a-week membership for families with busy schedules, though training more frequently helps students learn faster and retain skills more effectively.

Yes. Parents are welcome to watch all regular classes from the designated seating area at the back of the training floor, unless we announce otherwise for a special event or testing. We ask that parents keep conversations to a minimum and let our instructors guide the students. For Tiny Dino students, parents may step onto the mat to assist at the beginning of class while their child adjusts.

Memberships are billed monthly through automatic payment, with billing dates on the 1st, 10th, or 20th depending on your enrollment date. When you first join, you pay two months of tuition: the first covers your current month of training, and the second is held as your final month credit, applied when you cancel with proper notice.

Yes. Memberships may be placed on hold if your child will be away for two weeks or longer. Please provide written notice by text or email at least two weeks before your planned absence. If notice arrives less than two weeks before your billing date, the scheduled payment may still process and will be kept as a credit for when your child returns.

Submit a written notice by text or email. Your final month credit, paid at enrollment, is applied to your last month of training. We recommend giving notice at least six weeks in advance so we can stop future billing and schedule your final month correctly.

No problem. We encourage students to make up missed classes by attending another class that matches their age and belt level. If you are unsure which class to attend for a make-up, contact us and we will help.

Beginners are typically recommended for their first promotion fairly quickly, which gives children a clear goal and builds confidence. As students advance, the time between promotions grows, since higher ranks require stronger technique and greater consistency. With the exception of new beginners, belt promotions are by instructor recommendation only.

We are closed on major holidays such as Independence Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Day, and may close for other holidays during the year. All closures are announced in advance by email and text. In the event of severe weather, we notify all families by text and email if classes are canceled or the schedule changes.

Text message is the fastest way to reach us, and we monitor texts throughout the day. Upper West Side: 703-999-9275. Fort Lee: 551-574-1188.
